Award: Science Article of the Year

Congratulations to NeuWrite Nordic participant Essi Ikonen, who has received the “Science Article of the Year” award from Kasvatus: The Finnish Journal of Education. Essi’s essay critiquing utilitarian notions of creativity, and championing instead the “disobedient imagination”, evoked the following comment from the award committee (this won’t surprise anyone who has read Essi’s work in NeuWrite):

In a delightfully countercurrent, moving, and beautiful text, the author deliberately tests the limits of scientific expression; methodological innovation is not merely a stylistic device but part of the research argument itself.

Essi says:

I am grateful for the NeuWrite community that has helped me to develop my creative writing skills and encouraged me to explore alternative ways of writing about science. It means a lot to me.
